My Quick 55 Hydra Farming Guide
Introduction:
Hello all. I figured out that I could make a little 55 Monk Guide that will show you how to farm hydras quickly and easy. I advice you to read the whole guide before you start farming, that will help you understand better (You dont have to see the video at the end, its the least important part). Enjoy!!
Your Gear:
There are alot of people farming hydras, each using his or hers unique and special gear, and I will tell you the gear that im using. Many people of you can think that you can find a better gear, well go ahead.
First of all I prefer the tatoos as the armour for 1 reason: Energy. Use:
Head tatoo (+1 Protection Prayers, +3Protection Prayers)
Chest tatoo (+3 Healing Prayers)
Arm tatoo (+3 Divine favor)
Leg tatoo (+3 Smiting Prayers)
Foot tatoo (+3 <Anything> - Best to buy the cheapest rune)
You will have to buy those superior runes in order to lower you health (each superior rune on you = -75 Health).
For a weapon, I use the Fiery Flame spitter, but I think that many people also use the famous Henge of Denravi sword as their weapon:
Fiery Flame Spitter of Enchanting (Enchantments last 20/19% Longer)
and the focus item MUST be the famous -50 Grim cesta which you can earn by finishing the quest Cities of ascalon:
Grim Cesta (-50 Hp).
Now if you will calculate you health is now 55.
The whole set of gear will cost you depending on how expensive the runes are. For now (12.5.2006) It can cost you about 20-25k.
Skills:
Well, this is the part where you can cutomise your charchter by using whatever skills you think will be usefull. The important skills that you MUST have are Protective Spirit and a fighting skill that will damage your foes. "Why is protecive spirit so important?", The skills "job" is making that your foes cannot damage you for more then 10% of your health (Which means 5dmg) Like this you will get hurt and quickly heal yourself.
My advice is using my skill bar:
1. protective spirit
2. healing breeze
3. blessed signet
4. Shield of Jugement/Spiteful spirit (attacking skill)
5. Essence Bond
6. balthazars spirit
7. mending
8. blessed aura
(You can get the skills SoJ by deafeting the boss Myd Springclaw in mineral spirings if i remeber correctly and the skill SS by deafeting the Boss Nigh Spinechill right near camp rankor if i remember correctly. You can also switch 1 of you "unimportant skills" by a guarding skill such as Bonettis defence or Guardian but I dont recommand that at hydras farming.)
Attributes pointes:
The attributes points can be changed as you wish, but I recommand that you will finish the two attributes quests (The Heros Challenge at Droks and Forgotten wisdom at destinys) to have 200 attributes points.
If you would like to Kill the Hydras fast and easy use those attributes:
Healing prayers:12
Protection prayers:12
Divine favor:8
Smiting prayers/curses:The rest (I prefer using SoJ with hydras because they are not falling from it, and this way it goes much faster and easier.)
Now for your Job:
Ok. start of at skyward reach(from augury rock) and use the enchantments skills (5-8 On skillbar) and bond yourself, after that use blessed signet to raise you energy. Approach the hydras (try luring the biggest group you can, believe me it is much funner) and right before you attck cast protective spirit on yourself. Let them start attacking you, and wait for ALL of them to cast the meteor skill in order to not interrupt your attack skill. When they Finished, cats either healing breeze or your fighting skill, depend if you feel that they are attacking you too fast (I recommand to cast the attacking skill when you feel safe enough). After you cast your attacking skill the hydras will die in about 30 secs. When all hydras die, make sure that there are no hydras around you that can attack. If you are using a guardian skill, cast it when you are feeling that you are going to die. IF died, you will be returned to the resurrection shrine, and you wlil have 1 life. Dont be worried, you will not have to start of all again, because once putted the grim cesta -50hp off, you will have 33 health which is an advantage to you (The lower life you have, the better). you can see the video if you on understand something.

You don't need 12 healing. Take 8. Then you can have 16 smiteing.
Also You don't need to run a 4 enchant blessed sgi build. Just take balth spirit, mending, and blessed aura(no sig) and it works fine. Use bonnetiis defence for energy.
Also you can't hydra farm without balenced stance. Otherwise SoJ can get interupted. And it was a very long recharge time. Makes farming super slow.

EDIT: However not saying it doesn't work!

I can.
I farm them all the time with my 55 SS necro and I can't have balanced stance as a n/mo, can I?
Just wait for the wave of meteors, then cast. It's not that hard.

... I know you CAN farm without balenced stance. Its just so much easier and more efficent. Also doesn't SS recharge in 10 seconds? it does. SoJ recharges in 45 seconds. Thats alot longer recharge so you don't want it to be countered.

You must be taking on a lot of them to be worried about interupts
They always come in waves, so all you do is wait for the first wave, and cast it, then wait for the second, and cast it again if needed.

Yes, I do take on alot of them. That minamizes the time it takes to do a run. In my opinion its better to take balenced stance and take on alot(6) of them than not take it and take on 3.

I use Balanced + Dolyak and aggro everything. You might want to try it.
Prot Spirit, Breeze, SoJ, Balanced, Dolyak, Blessed Sig, Mending, Blessed Aura

I can take on a lot more that 6 with my w/mo, so i'm sure (also like the pic showed) that you can take on a lot more then 6. Also the hydras are fairly predictable, as soon as you enter their agro they will throw you with a meteor and then run towards you, one at a time, so with carefull timing your SoJ should not be interupted.

When theres a large amount they dont come in 1 wave.. they will come in like 3-5 different waves (3-5 diferent groups all together) and between 1 group and another theres about 4 seconds ( if u are taking on about 11 - 15 )... Best thing to do is wen u see ur being knocked down, wait for the 3rd meteor and queue up SS / SoJ while knocked down.. My rate of being interupted is about 5%.. and its no big deal since its recharge is 10 seconds and can last about 18s i think

Nice Build!
Wow! I just got finished with a massive run that spread out quite a bit. I ended up close to 4k on that run. Very nicely put together and the build works. Thanks.
